Aizawl: P Lalnuntluanga of Serkawn handed over the deed for 12 bighas of land on October 2. Chief Minister Lalduhoma accepted the donation at the High Powered Committee conference hall in Lunglei. The plot sits ready for an education complex.

This marks a massive shift. The government moved the university headquarters from Aizawl to Lunglei after intense public pressure. The assembly confirmed this site change by passing an amendment to the Mizoram State University Bill in February. Lalduhoma, who chairs the High Powered Committee, confirmed that state leaders consulted with political parties, churches, and NGOs before finalizing the location.

Construction still looms ahead. The government must build roads, water systems, and power lines before students can step on campus. Hiring faculty comes next. The Chief Minister expects a phased rollout as the project grows. "The finalisation of its site in Lunglei marked an important step," Lalduhoma said.

The plan fits the National Education Policy. Lawmakers passed the original bill in March 2024 to create a cluster model, grouping colleges under one framework. The institution will focus on teaching and handle college affiliations over the next 15 years. Officials now urge the local community to treat the site as their own as preliminary office work begins.

Lalduhoma insisted on keeping clean land records and demanded that any potential disputes over the property be settled through mutual agreement rather than litigation. The government is already drafting plans to set up an office as the first step in the rollout.
