Mizoram to Hire Over 1,300 Teachers to Address Staffing Shortages

Aizawl: Mizoram officials cleared the hiring of more than 1,300 teachers to fill staffing gaps across the state. Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Education Minister Vanlalthlana finalized the phased recruitment plan during a review meeting on Tuesday. The state needs more staff. Current school operations require an immediate overhaul.

The government approved 671 regular posts for primary school teachers. They will fill 100 of these spots during the current financial year. Officials also cleared 544 contractual middle school positions, with 212 teachers slated for hire this year. For high schools, the state approved 107 regular posts and will bring on 57 teachers before the year ends.

Leadership examined administrative vacancies including District Education Officers and Sub-Divisional Education Officers. The government agreed to fast-track the promotion of Circle Education Officers into SDEO roles. Officials are also prepping the Mizoram Education Service for review by the Council of Ministers.

The meeting touched on several specialized wings, including the Hindi Education Officer, Adult Education Wing, and Physical Education Wing. Authorities are weighing direct recruitment for Hindi Education Officer posts. Other options for the system include shifting some institutions to a public-private partnership model. The government may also merge or shutter schools with low attendance. According to an official statement, the review covered the overall functioning of government schools to ensure they operate effectively.
