Agartala: Tripura has hired 4,879 graduate and post-graduate teachers since the 2018-19 academic year. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha confirmed the hiring tally during a Thursday Assembly session. He addressed concerns raised by Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury regarding widespread staff shortages.
State records show the government appointed 1,413 post-graduate and 1,471 graduate teachers under the Directorate of Secondary Education. Officials also added 145 special educators, 117 school librarians, and 105 physical education teachers. To support local schooling, the administration deputed 2,684 teachers from state-run facilities to schools managed by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
Hiring is far from finished. The state is currently verifying documents to fill 352 pre-primary teacher spots. The Teachers Recruitment Board has received requests for another 1,036 primary teacher posts and 1,020 graduate teacher positions. Another 700 graduate teacher roles are currently being processed. Saha insisted that filling these desks involves a broader mission for the state.
"Recruiting a teacher means strengthening a classroom, illuminating a child's future and making tomorrow's Tripura stronger," the Chief Minister said. He added that the government intends to keep prioritizing quality education for every child.
