Guwahati: Members of the Dima Hasao Press Club sat down with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Diphu on Tuesday. They handed him a formal memorandum. The journalists want better welfare and facilities for reporters working in the remote hill district. These professionals struggle with limited infrastructure and logistical hurdles every day.
The delegation specifically requested a new press building in Haflong. This space would host press conferences, meetings, and training programs. They also asked for new government welfare schemes for accredited journalists and support for the families of long-serving media members. The representatives requested the return of organized exposure tours to help reporters learn more about the socio-economic conditions across Assam.
The memorandum noted the work of local reporters in raising public concerns and keeping lines of communication open between the state and its citizens. The group thanked the Chief Minister for his time. They asked him for "intervention for early action on their demands."
