Lawngtlai officials ramp up border surveillance against illegal trade

Aizawl: Lawngtlai district officials are tightening their grip on the India-Myanmar border. Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga ordered immediate, thorough checks on all goods moving across the international line. He demands firm action against illegal vehicle movement and unauthorized cross-border trade. Lawngtlai sits in a high-stakes position. The district administration, Mizoram Police, Assam Rifles, and the Lai Autonomous District Council are now coordinating enforcement efforts alongside the Central Young Lai Association.

Lalruatsanga wants officials to track vehicles registered to non-Indian citizens. He also ordered investigations into stolen vehicles sold or moved across the border. These agencies are actively working to recover missing cars. The AOC Veng branch of the Young Lai Association earned praise for its help in tracing and recovering such property. "Violations of applicable laws should be dealt with appropriately," Lalruatsanga said.

Local groups play a major role. Branches of the Young Lai Association now provide support to police and military units. Officials also reviewed the growing commercial impact of the Zorinpui route under the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project. Trade here will soon surge. Authorities remain focused on the security of Lawngtlai, Siaha, Saitual, Serchhip, Khawzawl, and Hnahthial, which all touch Myanmar’s Chin State.
