Guwahati: Lawngtlai officials are clamping down on illegal immigration. They met on July 17 to bolster security in the Mizoram district. Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga led the talks with the Lai Autonomous District Council, police, Assam Rifles, village councils, and NGOs. They want to monitor commercial work involving undocumented people more closely.

The district sits on the front lines against Myanmar and Bangladesh. Officials are finalizing biometric enrollment for refugees per Ministry of Home Affairs directives. LADC Chief Executive Member C. Lalsawmzuala demanded tight coordination between agencies, churches, and civic groups to block illegal crossings. He warned that unregulated trade hurts locals. "He also urged the Assam Rifles to remain vigilant in safeguarding the India-Myanmar border and protecting the interests of the people."

Lalruatsanga ordered hotels and village councils to track entrants. They must register refugees and stop sheltering illegal arrivals. Authorities are currently reviewing a draft Standard Operating Procedure to manage these immigrants and their business activities. The state wants order. Everyone must cooperate to ensure public safety in this volatile border zone.
