Aizawl: Assam Rifles personnel seized 250.21 grams of heroin valued at more than Rs 1.87 crore near the India-Myanmar border. The operation unfolded on August 30 in the Vangkai area of Zokhawthar, located in Mizoram's Champhai district. Troops acted on specific intelligence regarding narcotics movement in the area.
Soldiers set up an ambush along the Tiau River. They watched a woman cross the water carrying a green polybag. She dropped the bag on the bank and signaled to an accomplice waiting on a nearby scooter. Both suspects spotted the soldiers and bolted. The woman escaped back across the border into Myanmar, while the accomplice sped away on the scooter. They left the bag behind.
Troops searched the site and found the drugs. An official confirmed the recovery, stating, "The seized narcotics were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigation and legal action." The department now holds the evidence for legal proceedings.
