Aizawl: Lawngtlai officials are clamping down on illegal border crossings. District authorities plan to monitor business deals involving undocumented people. Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga led the high-level meeting on Friday to coordinate these enforcement measures. The session included police, the Assam Rifles, village councils, the Lai Autonomous District Council, and local NGOs.

Lawngtlai sits directly on the borders of Myanmar and Bangladesh. It faces constant pressure from cross-border movement. LADC Chief Executive Member C. Lalsawmzuala demanded better teamwork between the government and churches to secure the region. He issued a clear warning regarding local economic stability. "While recognising the importance of legitimate cross-border trade, he cautioned that unchecked business activities involving undocumented entrants could adversely affect local communities."

Biometric registration for refugees is almost finished. The project follows national Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines. Lalruatsanga ordered hotel operators and village councils to track everyone staying in their facilities. Providing shelter to undocumented people is now a major target for officials. The district is also finalizing a new Standard Operating Procedure to streamline law enforcement and regulate local commerce. Authorities claim they want to keep the peace and protect public safety along the frontier.
