Aizawl: A BJP delegation from Mizoram met Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in New Delhi on Friday. They demanded the government fast-track the 125th Constitution Amendment Bill of 2019. The legislation sits idle in Parliament. It concerns the Lai, Mara, and Chakma Autonomous District Councils located in southern Mizoram.

BJP legislator K Hrahmo led the delegation. Party Northeast coordinator and MP Sambit Patra also attended the session. Rai told the group the government considers the demand a priority. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is overseeing the process. Rai promised to call a meeting on the bill soon. He said, "The demand was being given due importance" while committing to push the legislation through as quickly as possible.

The team also lobbied for cash for landslide victims in Lawngtlai town. Disasters in May 2025 destroyed homes and land. Lalhruaitluangi Vandir, the BJP Lawngtlai district president, asked for help. She wants money for relief and debris cleanup. Rai pledged to track the request and speed up the release of federal funds.
