Aizawl: Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad arrived in Aizawl on October 5 to lead the BJP push for the 2028 Mizoram Assembly elections. The former Union Minister of State for Finance now serves as the party state in-charge and Northeast co-coordinator. He intends to visit the state frequently to bolster the party organization at the grassroots level.

The party aims to form the government in 2028. Currently, the BJP holds two seats in the 40-member assembly, both within the Siaha district. Karad dismissed rumors about the Zoram People's Movement joining the NDA, noting that no formal talks have occurred. He stated, "The central BJP leadership is taking the upcoming General Elections in Mizoram very seriously. My appointment as the state in-charge reflects the seriousness with which the party is approaching the electoral battle in the state."

Karad tied his electoral optimism to the Centre's track record on infrastructure. He pointed to the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway line, which cost over Rs 8,000 crore and finished in September 2025. This project links Sairang to the national network. He also cited road, energy, sports, and social infrastructure projects launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his September 2025 visit, including Eklavya Model Residential Schools and rural housing schemes.
