North Eastern Council Pumps 42 Crore into Regional Projects

Kohima: The North Eastern Council (NEC) funneled 42.63 crore into regional projects during September 2026. This cash injection supports infrastructure, education, agriculture, and tourism. States grabbed 35.21 crore while regional agencies secured 7.42 crore. Nagaland topped the list with 11.92 crore, earmarked for a coffee value chain and a cultural complex in Pfutseromi village. Mizoram received 6.29 crore for various projects including an auditorium in Champhai and ginger cultivation.

Assam picked up 4.42 crore for student hostels and Singpho community work. Sikkim received 4.17 crore for CCTV surveillance and a college hall. Arunachal Pradesh took 3.40 crore for health and tourism infrastructure. Tripura, Manipur, and other states received project installments. Agencies also scored big. The North Eastern Development Finance Corporation got 2.88 crore for bamboo clusters, while NEHHDC received 2.35 crore for handloom skills. NECTAR secured 1.24 crore for remote school STEM labs.

The NEC also closed 14 major projects worth 45.48 crore. Completed works include school buildings in Meghalaya, a music center in Nagaland, and a girls hostel in Arunachal Pradesh. Agricultural projects in Assam were finalized. The council also shut down several specialized initiatives. These included seven bamboo processing prototypes and an IT program spanning 150 Mizoram schools. An official NEC update noted these funds support sectors such as "infrastructure, capacity building, technology, education, culture, agriculture, tourism, skills and community development."
