Kohima: The North Eastern Council finished nine projects across Nagaland this July and August. These developments cost nearly Rs 80 crore. The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region oversaw the work. Focus areas included road connectivity, coffee production, ecological health, and cultural sites.
Five initiatives worth Rs 16.06 crore wrapped up in July alone. Two afforestation projects in Phek and Peren districts cost Rs 3 crore each. These sites aim to stop soil erosion and fix damaged forests. Locals helped via Joint Forest Management Committees.
Clean water arrived at the Nagaland University Medziphema campus on July 2. This Rs 4.43-crore system serves students and nearby villages. On July 15, officials finished a Rs 4-crore coffee project. Growers now have roasting machines and training to process beans locally. The NEC stated the projects reflect a drive to combine goals, noting they are "aimed at preserving and promoting Naga heritage, folk history and indigenous traditions."
Cultural sites include the Rs 1.66-crore Naga Indigenous Inn at Kijulo, a Rs 3.11-crore museum in Chungliyimti, and the massive Rs 22.78-crore Konyak Heritage Complex in Mon. Tourism got a boost with a Rs 4.50-crore viewpoint at Aradura Hills in Kohima. Meanwhile, an 8.4-km road connecting NH-29 to the Governor's Camp via Seithekiema C cost Rs 32.89 crore. Authorities also pushed funding toward a Tribal Artisans Resource Centre in Chümoukedima and an agarwood trade workshop.
