Aizawl: The North Eastern Council funneled more than 20.17 crore into Mizoram during May and June 2026. This cash flow comes under the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region. Officials confirm 13.68 crore hit the coffers via Schemes of NEC, while 6.50 crore went toward the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme for roads.

Healthcare and agriculture took center stage. The NEC funded patient lodging and staff quarters near NEIGRIHMS, plus a Central Medical Warehouse in Aizawl. Farmers in Kolasib and Mamit districts will see new areca nut plantations. A Fish Farmer Training Centre at Lengpui now supports scientific aquaculture. The council also backed a cultural auditorium in Bethel Veng, a centre at Kawlri, and the Aizawl Institute of Arts and Music.

Environmental and social programs received a boost too. Funds covered biotechnology infrastructure, afforestation in Champhai, and maternal care initiatives. An official stated, "The funding supported several healthcare initiatives, agriculture, culture, scientific research, environmental conservation and community development."

Roads got a massive overhaul. Crews will upgrade the 32.70-km Oil Palm Link Road across Kolasib, Mamit, Lunglei, and Lawngtlai districts. Nearly 60,000 residents across 19 villages gain better access to markets, schools, and hospitals. This work bolsters the local oil palm industry.

Regional agencies also received 18.93 crore. These funds supported the Sikpui Ruoi Festival 2025, Mizoram Challenge 2025, and an anti-drug drive. The Foundation for Drug-Free Mizoram manages these efforts to guide youth and curb substance abuse.
