North Eastern Council Finishes 14 Projects and Releases Millions in Funding

Shillong: The North Eastern Council finished 14 infrastructure projects in September. The work cost Rs 45.48 crore. Meghalaya took center stage with a new Rs 9.28 crore cultural complex and school infrastructure valued at Rs 4.75 crore. These school buildings sit in Mawthadraishan in West Khasi Hills, while the Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban cultural hub is ready in Shillong.

Cash is flowing. The Council released Rs 42.63 crore for fresh development. Eight states claimed Rs 35.21 crore of that total. Nagaland led the pack with Rs 11.92 crore. This money covers coffee value-chain projects and a cultural complex for the Chakhesang tribe at Pfutseromi village.

Mizoram grabbed Rs 6.29 crore for projects like a Champhai auditorium and Vangchhia tourism facilities. Assam secured Rs 4.42 crore for Tinsukia Singpho community initiatives and Kokrajhar student hostels. Sikkim picked up Rs 4.17 crore for town CCTV and a Rhenock college hall. Arunachal Pradesh banked Rs 3.40 crore for nursing hostels and tourism sites. Tripura and Manipur also received funding for eco-tourism, tribal livelihoods, and waste management.

Regional agencies pulled in Rs 7.42 crore. The Bamboo Development Centre took Rs 2.88 crore, and the Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation got Rs 2.35 crore. The Council sent Rs 1.24 crore to NECTAR for remote STEM labs. Additional funds reached NEDFi, NIT Meghalaya, IIM Shillong, NEHU, and NESAC. The NEC stated these moves reflect its "continued focus on infrastructure, education, livelihoods, tourism, culture and technology-driven development across the Northeast."
