Guwahati: Manvendra Pratap Singh finally cleared his belongings out of a Guwahati community hall on September 29. The 2012-batch IAS officer, who serves as Commissioner of the Assam Transport Department, had been holding onto the space for personal storage. He is out. The public facility at the Forest Colony in Rehabari is now open for its intended use.

Reports surfaced on September 8 that Singh turned the community hall into a private warehouse. He had allegedly kept his items there for more than two years. This hogging of the hall stopped other residents and officers from using the common area. The Assam Forest Department repeatedly ordered him to pack up and leave.

Singh previously held two flats at the same colony, living in one while using the other for storage. He has since relocated to a flat in the IAS Officers’ Colony in Khanapara and cleared both Rehabari flats. According to reports, "The facility has reportedly been cleared for common use." The standoff ended only after the department pressured him to vacate the premises.
