Aizawl: The Mizo National Front (MNF) legal team hit back today. They filed a formal complaint with Aizawl Cyber Crime police over a doctored video targeting party president Zoramthanga. The clip falsely claims the former Chief Minister promised up to Rs 15 lakh in annual aid to poor households if his party secures a win in the 2028 Assembly elections.
David R Lalsawmtluanga, secretary of the MNF Legal Board, submitted the complaint. He maintains the party leader never spoke those words. "The video had been digitally manipulated to make it appear that Zoramthanga had promised Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh annually to poor people after the MNF returns to power in the 2028 Assembly elections," the filing states. The footage includes captions intended to mock the leader and damage the MNF brand.
The bogus content spread rapidly across WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Investigators now have the names of three social media users identified by the party as primary spreaders of the video. The MNF demands authorities trace the original source and hold the creators accountable. They want a case registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Political posturing in Mizoram is heating up as parties look toward 2028, but the MNF insists this hit job crossed the line.
