Aizawl: Mizoram finalized its electoral rolls following a Special Intensive Revision that spanned three months. The state now counts 8.35 lakh voters. Chief Electoral Officer Garima Gupta released the figures on September 7 in Aizawl. The process saw 39,243 new additions alongside 78,442 total deletions. The state electorate now features 4 lakh men, 4.32 lakh women, and the first-ever third-gender voter in Mizoram.
Officials launched the revision on May 20 as part of a national effort across 15 states and two Union Territories. The state held 8.75 lakh electors before the exercise. Authorities issued enumeration forms to every voter. They collected 8,28,906 forms, while 46,162 forms went uncollected. Officials deleted those names immediately. The draft rolls published on July 4 listed 8,28,906 electors. A final claim and objection period, which wrapped up on September 2, resulted in 32,280 additional deletions and 39,243 new sign-ups. This created a net increase of 6,963 voters compared to the draft.
Aizawl District leads the state with 2.78 lakh voters. Lunglei follows with 97,172 and Lawngtlai has 90,715. The district of Hnahthial, established in 2019, holds the fewest voters at 15,522. At the constituency level, Tuichawng boasts 37,236 electors, the highest count. West Tuipui sits at the bottom with 14,667. Aizawl North-I grew by 1,394 voters, the state's largest gain. West Tuipui lost 1,800 voters, the largest drop. Aizawl North-II maintains the highest sex ratio with 1,221 women per 1,000 men. West Tuipui has the lowest at 848 women per 1,000 men.
Gupta delayed the official publication from September 6 because it fell on a Sunday. She credited the success of the project to local support. Gupta said, "The SIR exercise in Mizoram as one of the smoothest in the country." She thanked political parties, churches, civil society groups, and the media for their help.
