Aizawl: Mizoram BJP president K Beichhua announced on August 28 that his party aims to form the state government in the 2028 Assembly elections. He labeled the party the brightest alternative for voters during a program in Aizawl. The Zoram People's Movement currently holds power following their 2023 victory.
Beichhua recently returned from a New Delhi meeting led by BJP president Nitin Nabin. Central leaders praised the state unit's activity report, citing unity among workers. Beichhua believes aligning Mizoram with the NDA is essential for growth. He claimed, "The central leadership will help us so that the BJP can form a government in Mizoram in 2028 and ensure that genuine development reaches the people from the Centre without burdening them."
He criticized the ZPM for failing to meet public expectations after three years in office. He also dismissed the Congress and Mizo National Front as past failures. The BJP is now courting younger voters to drive political reforms and expand its base.
Meanwhile, Congress leader C Ngunlianchunga claimed both the ZPM and MNF are fighting to become NDA partners. He questioned which group Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will eventually pick. Ngunlianchunga accused the ZPM of failing to deliver on promises regarding rice prices, taxation, and electricity bills. He specifically pointed to flaws in the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme, noting that private hospitals in Aizawl remain left out of the program.
The Congress legislator also hit out at the MNF, citing a decline in their political strength despite having 10 MLAs. He remains optimistic about a Congress comeback, stating that he believes "God will bless the party to govern this state again."
