Aizawl: Mizoram took the top spot nationwide for its drug demand reduction efforts. The Union Secretary of Social Justice and Empowerment announced the ranking on Thursday, September 3. This recognition highlights the state's work under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction, or NAPDDR.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment created this federal scheme to stop drug abuse and help users recover. It also focuses on training staff and teaching kids about the dangers of addiction. The state Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Department manages the work.
Implementation spans from the state level down to districts and blocks. Social Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii oversees the operations while Deputy Commissioners direct the action on the ground. Officials credit the win to strong teamwork. "Mizoram's recognition as the country's top-performing State in drug demand reduction" came from cooperation between the government, local churches, and various voluntary organizations.
The state also runs the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan program in every district. Leaders focus heavily on the safety of women and children. Regular performance reports go straight to the Union Ministry to track progress. The NAPDDR aims to build better clinics and fix institutional gaps to keep people clean.
