Guwahati: North Lakhimpur University turned 70 on Thursday. The institution marked its foundation anniversary with a packed day of events in Assam. Vice-Chancellor Mukul Chandra Bora kicked off the morning by hoisting the flag. Shortly after, Celebration Committee President Uday Shankar Hazarika joined other local dignitaries to raise 75 additional flags.
General Secretary Diganta Kalita led a tribute to the deceased. Members of the University Students' Union honored the martyrs. Registrar Biman Chandra Chetia lit a ceremonial lamp at the statue of former Principal Jogananda Bargohain to pay his respects. Meanwhile, the Assamese Department showcased the school's history with an exhibition. The display featured photos of past principals, professors, and notable figures alongside key moments from the last seven decades.
Madhavdev University Vice-Chancellor Arupjyoti Chowdhury addressed the opening ceremony. He emphasized the importance of traditional learning, stating, "No matter how many sources of knowledge there are, there is no basic source except books."
Retired professor Gopal Chandra Hazarika spoke to the crowd about his time as a student. Attendees also saw the release of a new book, Jatindranath Duwara's Life and Poetic Talent, written by the late professor Govind Mohan Deka. Several high-profile guests observed the proceedings, including MLA Manab Deka, MLA Jaiprakash Das, MLA Rishiraj Hazarika, former MLA Devananda Hazarika, and retired Principal Pushpanath Bora.
