Guwahati: Assamese singer and politician Simanta Shekhar quit his post as chairman of the Assam State Film Finance and Development Corporation. He also resigned from the BJP, leaving both the state executive committee and his primary membership. He sent his formal resignation letters to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state BJP president.
The official government website still lists Shekhar as the sitting chairman. Despite this, he walked away. He insists the move is purely personal. He claims the decision has nothing to do with party policies or specific individuals. "My love, respect and commitment towards Assam and the Assamese community would remain unchanged."
Shekhar stated he will not join any other political group in the future. He wished the BJP and his former colleagues success in their ongoing efforts to serve the people of Assam. He specifically offered well-wishes to the Chief Minister, saying he hopes the state continues to progress under Sarma’s leadership.
