Guwahati: Assam will pay 8 lakh rupees to families of people killed in wild elephant attacks. Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah announced the move as a direct response to rising conflict. Authorities need to stop the violence. They are also planting elephant-friendly trees across 50 hectares of land. The Ecological Task Force will handle this work to keep herds away from villages.

The government plans to deploy 140 Gaj Mitras in the Tamulpur forest area. These personnel will manage human-elephant interactions to curb dangerous encounters. The state government stated, "The proposed measures aim to address the growing challenges of human-elephant conflict while strengthening support for affected communities." This initiative marks a firm shift in how the region handles its growing wildlife crisis.
