Lakshmeswar Saikia Named New Operations Chief for Northeast Frontier Railway

Guwahati: Lakshmeswar Saikia has taken the reins as Principal Chief Operations Manager of the Northeast Frontier Railway. The senior Indian Railway Traffic Service officer steps into the role with extensive experience across several departments. He previously managed operations for the Kolkata Metro.

Saikia is a native of Titabor in the Jorhat district of Upper Assam. He entered the railway service following the 1993 Civil Services Examination. The Higher Administrative Grade officer also held a short tenure with the Assam Civil Service after passing the Assam Public Service Commission test. He holds an agriculture degree alongside an MBA in Project and Leadership Management.

His career spans a seven-year deputation period. During that time, he worked as Director in the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, General Manager of the Food Corporation of India for the Assam Region, and Chief Regional Manager for IRCTC. He returned to the Maligaon headquarters about a year ago.

The Assam Rail Passengers Association welcomed the appointment. General Secretary Dipankar Sharma noted the significance of the move. He stated, "the elevation of an Assamese officer to such a key position in Northeast Frontier Railway was a matter of pride for the state."

The association expects Saikia to use his local knowledge to fix recurring passenger complaints and streamline rail operations. He now carries direct responsibility for the entire Northeast Frontier Railway network.
