Northeast Frontier Railway eyes direct Manipur to Guwahati train line

Imphal: Northeast Frontier Railway General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava met with top Manipur officials on September 2. He conferred with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Lok Bhavan and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the CM Secretariat. Rail bosses want a direct link between Manipur and Guwahati to boost regional trade and travel. This link remains a primary goal for the state.

Officials reviewed the Jiribam to Khongsang passenger line. They want to ensure these trains run on time. The state must improve road access between Vangaichungpao and the National Highway to support the tracks. Better security remains a priority for safe operations. New freight plans for the Khongsang Terminal also surfaced during the meetings. Workers looked at starting Roll-on/Roll-off services to move goods and vehicles via rail.

Progress on the Jiribam-Imphal New Railway Line remains slow. The project is strategically important. The railway wants to finish the work soon. Officials reaffirmed the mission to boost the regional economy through better transit. "The meetings reaffirmed NFR's focus on strengthening railway infrastructure and passenger and freight services in Manipur, while enhancing security and supporting the state's socio-economic development through improved rail connectivity," a statement noted regarding the agenda.
