Imphal: The Zeme Students' Organisation Manipur is demanding the immediate reconstruction of the Tamenglong to Tousem headquarters road. It is the only link for Tousem residents to access healthcare, banks, and schools. Raninglung Newme, the group president, says the road is effectively dead.
Rain turns the route into a trap. Ambulances and passenger vehicles sink into deep mud for hours or even overnight. Patients and students suffer most. Commuters often spend three and a half hours on the trip, but the damage forces them to wait far longer. Frustrated villagers use shovels and stones to patch the road themselves. It is a desperate move. Their efforts prove the government has failed to provide basic infrastructure.
Newme blasted the work of Zandu Company and KCC Company. He claims their maintenance is superficial and fails to address the rot. "The Tamenglong-Tousem road has become a road only in name. It no longer serves the purpose for which it was constructed. Every journey has become a struggle for survival. It is unacceptable that, in this modern era, our people continue to endure such inhumane conditions simply because of poor road connectivity," Newme said.
The group wants the Manipur government to stop the talk. They need real funding, heavy machinery, and engineering crews on the ground now. The group vows to keep fighting until the road is fixed for good.
