Imphal: The Zeme Students' Organisation Manipur is demanding the state government rebuild the Tamenglong-Tousem Headquarters Road. The group released a statement on Sunday, July 19, calling the route a lifeline for the Tousem subdivision. It links locals to banks, schools, hospitals, and government offices.
President Raninglung Newme says the road is wrecked. Monsoon rains turn the dirt into thick mud, trapping ambulances and private cars for hours. Residents often spend nights stuck on the road. A trip that should take three-and-a-half hours now drags on for much longer.
Villagers have tried filling the deep ruts with loose stones and gravel themselves. These makeshift patches failed. Newme slammed the maintenance efforts of Zandu Company and KCC Company as weak. He noted that the repairs were "largely superficial and insufficient to address the road's condition."
The group wants the state to step up. They demand immediate funding, better machinery, and a permanent fix from engineering teams. Sick patients and students remain the hardest hit by the collapse of the area's main supply chain.
