Shillong: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced the return of inter-state bus services to help students and patients hit by sky-high airfares. Buses resumed operations on Friday to provide relief after the ethnic violence that began in May 2023. This crisis gutted the finances of daily wage earners across the state. Transit continued smoothly for the second day on Saturday along the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati route.
Official reports show over 200 passengers left Imphal in four buses and six Winger vehicles. They crossed the mountainous Kangpokpi and Senapati districts without any trouble. A senior transport official noted the peaceful transit. The Chief Minister emphasized that government efforts aim at restoring normalcy. "The ethnic crisis has caused immense hardships to the lives of people across the state, particularly the daily wage earners," Singh said.
During a visit to Kakching District, the Chief Minister opened school improvements at Wabagai Higher Secondary School. He confirmed that local road repairs in the Wabagai Assembly Constituency cost 5 crores over six months. Officials are now considering a new 10-crore road project. Local MLA Dr. Usham Deben Singh added that a new bridge funded by the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana will finish soon. The school now features new physics, chemistry, and biology labs along with updated restroom facilities for students.
