Jowai welfare group highlights senior citizen rights

Shillong: The Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association held an awareness program for senior citizens on Friday. The event took place at Panaliar in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills. It operated through the group's Drop-In and Day Care Centre.

Organizers chose the theme The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives. The District Social Welfare Officer of West Jaintia Hills provided support for the initiative. The goal remains clear: educate the public on elderly rights and offer a space for seniors to share their stories.

MCSWA Director Dr. JN Shullai gave the keynote address. Research scholar and Advocate Kyntiewlin Pakyntein broke down legal safeguards and rights for the elderly. Attendees heard directly from center members regarding community involvement.

Bniahdiam Bthuh, P Paswet, L Kynjing, and G Pde spoke during the session. They pushed for the active participation of older people in community affairs. These members believe seniors must remain involved. The discussion provided a direct look at the challenges and contributions of the aging population.
