Shillong: The Pnar Student Movement demanded a new infiltration check gate on the Jowai-Dawki road this Friday. They want to stop illegal entries from Bangladesh. Security is a major worry.
A delegation led by PSM president E. Passah and general secretary W. Wann met with Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar Singh to file their formal request. Singh promised to look into the matter and handle it with necessary measures. The group also sat down with Additional SP Jason Myrom to discuss the proposal.
Myrom confirmed that officials already sent a plan for a check gate in the Amlarem Civil Sub-Division to the state government. It sits in limbo awaiting approval. Public safety hangs in the balance.
Publicity secretary S. Lakiang warned the state government that the union will escalate its protest. The group plans to march to the state Secretariat in Shillong if officials do not act soon. "The union intends to take the matter to the state Secretariat in Shillong if no concrete action is taken in the coming days," Lakiang stated.
