Imphal: NSCN/GPRN Deputy Ato Kilonser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) VS Atem issued a stark warning to the Naga community on Monday. He addressed the inaugural programme of the Mao Students’ Union Martyrs’ Trophy 2026 at the AFA Turf Ground in Asufii, Punanamei. The region faces escalating tension. Atem claimed the Government of India is fueling division through apartheid policies.
Atem alleged the Centre uses Kuki militant groups as proxies against Nagas. He claimed these groups, protected under the Suspension of Operations agreement, are being armed to fight Naga village guards. The NSCN leader further accused security forces of transporting Kuki militants in armoured vehicles to engage these guards. He cited the death of six Naga civilians at Leilon Vaiphei as evidence of a double standard. Security forces allegedly stand by when Naga villages burn but disarm village guards protecting their homes.
Opposition to border fencing remains a top priority for the leadership. Officials claim the wall prevents infiltration, but Atem dismissed this narrative entirely. He argued that cross-border issues involve illegal immigrants in the Chandel and Khurmi regions, not the Nagas. “We can never allow a Berlin wall like structure to come up in the Naga ancestral land,” Atem said.
He urged Nagas to stay vigilant and reject internal divisions. He emphasized that the youth must understand their nationhood to face these challenges. Nagas cannot remain spectators while fellow brothers suffer. He demanded total unity across all circumstances to protect their territory and future.
