Kohima: Rev. A. Puni Mao, a senior NSCN (I-M) official, retracted accusations that Kohima Village armed Kuki militants. The Kohima Village Council demanded answers after Puni claimed the village supplied 30 AK-47 rifles during a June 25 meeting at Hotel Bliss in Chümoukedima.
Puni’s claims hit hard. The Council labeled the remarks false, malicious, and designed to spread propaganda for personal gain. They argued that such inflammatory rhetoric serves only to sow division among the Naga people.
Leadership summoned Puni to the KVC Hall on July 7 to prove his claims. He returned on July 9, faced the council members and village elders, and folded. Puni admitted he spoke without evidence and asked for forgiveness. The Kohima Village Council released a statement regarding the incident, noting, "The hasty derogatory remark was purely baseless with no authenticity or evidence, but to sow divisive attitude with false propaganda to malign and tarnish the image of Kohima Village for his personal benefit."
The council officially accepted his public apology. They declared the matter settled. However, officials issued a final warning against further spreading of lies. They stated that hate leads only to vengeance and non-cooperation.
