Dimapur Groups Hold Vigil for Slain Naga Men

Kohima: Civil society groups gathered at the Super Market in Dimapur this past Friday evening to mourn the deaths of six Naga men. These men were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in Manipur on May 13. Their bodies were found nearly a month later on June 10. The Zeliangrong Public Organisation Dimapur organized the vigil to show solidarity with the grieving families and demand accountability.

A long list of groups attended the event. Attendees included the Naga Council Dimapur, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Dimapur, Tenyimi Union Dimapur, Western Sumi Hoho, Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur, Lotha Hoho Dimapur, Zeliang Women Organisation Dimapur, Nagaland Joint Christian Forum, Chakro Angami Kuda Union, and Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland.

GK Rengma, president of the Naga Council Dimapur, addressed the crowd. He urged the Indian and Manipur governments to launch a fair investigation. He pushed for swift legal action. “Darkness often feels heavy and overwhelming, but even the smallest flame can pierce through it,” Rengma said while lighting a candle.

Other leaders spoke out against the violence. Khriezoronuo Zumvu of the Naga Women Hoho Dimapur called the incident a brutal murder. She told the families that their loss was felt by everyone. Izesile Ramlia of the Zeliang Women Organisation Dimapur also condemned the act, stating, “No mother should suffer this way.” Speakers insisted that the demand for justice transcends tribal lines. They called for peace rather than revenge. The organizations warned that their commitment to order should not be seen as a sign of weakness.
