Kohima: Zeliangrong Public Dimapur held a candlelight vigil Friday at the Super Market area to honor six Naga civilians abducted and murdered in Manipur. Attendees included church leaders, tribal representatives, and civil society members. They demanded accountability for the May 13, 2026, massacre.
Organizing committee member Raymond Chawang detailed the incident. The victims were traveling home from a wedding and a market when intercepted. One victim managed to place a final video call, alerting others to the danger and likely saving lives. Chawang pushed for immediate action from the authorities, telling the crowd that “justice delayed is justice denied.”
Solidarity speakers echoed the call for peace. Naga Council Dimapur president G.K. Rengma urged Nagas to abandon tribal divisions. Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Dimapur president Thamlong Phom confirmed that various tribal groups prepared a joint memorandum for the Prime Minister of India. They want a full investigation.
Tenyimi Union Dimapur president Thepfuneituo Rio and Lotha Hoho Dimapur president T. Lotha both demanded exemplary punishment for the killers. Western Sumi Hoho secretary Inaka Achumi labeled the murders a barbaric act. Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur president Ningsangwaba called it a crime against humanity.
Khriezovonuo Zumvu of the Naga Women Hoho Dimapur urged the younger generation to reject hatred. Zeliang Women Organisation Dimapur president I Ramlia thanked the public for their support. The program included a tribute video, a song, and a moment of silence. The Nagaland Joint Christian Forum president Rev. Dr. N. Paphino led prayers for healing. Participants left with a firm demand for legal justice and regional unity.
