Kohima: The Fellowship of Naga Baptist Associations slammed the deadly ambush of five civilians along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district. The attack occurred between the Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga villages. Five lives ended in the violence. The victims included a student leader, an educator, and youth representatives.
Church leaders denounced the violence. FNBA president Rev. Dr. Visor H. Zeliang, vice president Rev. Dr. Vevo Phesao, recorder Rev. Dr. P. James, joint recorder Rev. Dr. Yanbemo Lotha, and general secretary Rev. Dr. H. Gideon signed the condemnation note. They labeled the strike as “cold-blooded and barbaric.” The group stated, “There can be no justification for the deliberate killing of innocent civilians. Justice must be swift, firm and uncompromising.”
Authorities must act. The FNBA insists that the government identify, arrest, and prosecute every person involved in the massacre. They want the perpetrators charged under strict anti-terrorism and criminal laws. No armed faction should operate with impunity. The association also offered prayers for one person wounded in the attack and expressed condolences to the grieving families.

The Global Naga Forum, or GNF, has rejected the traditional cycle of condolences, labeling the ambush a failure of a systemic nature. The group stated that four Naga civilians were killed, with one person wounded and another still missing. Among the dead was the founder and principal of a local school.
The GNF blasted the security apparatus for its absence on the ground, arguing that while forces are hyper-visible during civil protests, they vanish when Naga civilians are targeted. The forum specifically targeted the Suspension of Operations framework, calling it a fraud that provides cover for armed cadres to stage attacks from designated camps. The GNF demanded that Kuki leadership stop issuing general peace appeals and instead force the arrest of commanders already identified by their own apex body, the Thadou Inpi.

The group also invoked the memory of six Nagas abducted and killed on May 13, noting those bodies remain in a morgue while justice stays out of reach.
The NPF joined the chorus of condemnation, warning that these targeted killings threaten to derail any remaining hope for normalcy in the region. They demanded the state and central governments stop the cycle of violence and secure vulnerable stretches of road immediately.

The NSCN (I-M) regions of Zeilad, Asalu, Makuilongdi, and NC-Hills have broken their silence, warning they will not remain mute spectators. The groups signaled a shift toward potential retaliation if the situation demands it. They explicitly blamed the KNF (P) and ZRA for the attack, identifying Jangboi Kipgen, the Home Secretary of KNF/UPF, as the commander behind the operation.
The Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF) noted that the massacre occurred just one day after a state government delegation met with the United Naga Council in Senapati to discuss peace. The forum named the deceased as Wisobou Charenamai, Tadsongbou Ringkangmei, Mariakidbou Wijunamai, Anil Wijunamai, and student leader Japou MK, stating that the violence sabotages fragile efforts to restore order.
Regional factions also linked this ambush to a series of previous attacks, including incidents at Goitang, Khoupum, and Lanka Village, as well as the June 8 killing of Chunjanglung Panmei, arguing that a consistent, unresolved pattern of violence has plagued the region for months.

The forum warned that current Naga leadership risks becoming a shell, adding, "Our institutional silence and our leaders' endless appetite for accommodation with a sleeping or hostile state apparatus have reduced our sovereignty to a hollow phrase."
As the Nagaland Joint Christian Forum framed the incident through the lens of failed diplomacy, it noted the tragedy struck only 24 hours after a state government delegation met with the United Naga Council in Senapati. The forum urged a pivot toward the teachings of peace, citing Matthew 5:9, while explicitly naming the injured survivor as Gaikamang Ringkangmei.
