Lakhimpur Family Accuses Officials of Illegal Land Grab

Guwahati: A North Lakhimpur family is fighting to reclaim 19 bighas, 3 katha, and 3 lessa of land in Bogolijan. They claim the property was snatched through fraud and administrative corruption. Muhiuddin Ahmed bought the land in 1939. His granddaughter, Sanam Das, says the family never sold the plot to anyone.

The family points fingers at Abdul Subhan and Abdul Salam. They allege the pair grabbed the land and sold it off in chunks. Das claims revenue officials facilitated these transfers without consent. She says, "My grandfather bought the land in Bogolijan in 1939 and it was registered in his name. Abdul Subhan and Abdul Salam illegally grabbed our land and sold it part by part with the help of corrupt officials."

The list of accused officials is long. It includes former North Lakhimpur Circle Officer Niluram Kumar Sarma, revenue officer Tinkumoni Borah, former Deputy Commissioner Pranab Jit Kakoti, and current revenue officer Madhurjya Buragohain. The family says the police refused to register their criminal complaint.

They turned to the CM Vigilance Cell for help. An inquiry started, but nothing changed. Das blames the influence and connections of the accused for the stall. The family holds the original documents, yet the land remains in other hands. They have nowhere left to turn.
