Assam PWD Engineer Busted for Taking Bribe

Guwahati: Anti-corruption agents caught an Assam Public Works Department engineer taking cash on October 6. Mridul Baglari serves as an Assistant Executive Engineer in Dibrugarh. He works out of the Superintending Engineer's office.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption acted after receiving a tip. The complainant claimed Baglari demanded 1.3 lakh rupees to release pending bill payments. Agents set a trap. They grabbed the engineer inside his office chamber.

He was caught red-handed. The DVAC recovered 30,000 rupees in cash from his possession. Independent witnesses watched the team seize the money. The agency stated, "Sufficient evidence had been found against the public servant and that he had been arrested in connection with the case."

Officials registered a case at the Anti-Corruption Bureau police station. The charges fall under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Legal proceedings continue against Baglari.
