Guwahati: Assam Civil Service officer Debeswar Bora sits behind bars. The Special Vigilance Cell arrested the 1999-batch Dhemaji District Development Commissioner on Monday for criminal misconduct. He faces serious allegations of running a sophisticated scam.
Bora allegedly hired a mimicry artist to call people looking for government jobs or state contracts. The artist impersonated Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, and other high-ranking bureaucrats to trick victims. The calls convinced targets that Bora held significant influence in the state government. A local politician and businessman finally blew the whistle on the scheme.
Investigators raided Bora’s Dhemaji home on September 7. They also hit several locations in Guwahati on Monday. Agents are now digging into claims that he hoarded wealth far beyond his legal salary. A Vigilance Cell official confirmed the scope of the ongoing probe. "All aspects of his criminal misconduct against many people are being investigated," the official said.
The agency continues to examine his financial records. They want to know exactly how much he stole. No further details about the mimicry operation or specific financial findings have been released yet.
