Kohima: Patkai Christian College hosted its Fourth Geo Lecture Series on October 23 in Chümoukedima. Held at the UGC Conference Hall, the event tackled the state's urgent environmental hurdles. Dean of Science Dr. Th Devala Devi opened the session. Experts dissected waste management, water scarcity, and monsoon damage.
Akangmeren Imchen of the Nagaland Pollution Control Board led the first talk. He noted that every person generates about 0.4 kg of waste every day. He pushed for waste segregation and home composting to stop illegal dumping. Imchen warned that the Dimapur water table plummeted from 10 feet in 1986 to over 35 feet today. He stated, "Each individual produces approximately 0.4 kg of waste daily." He pushed locals to plant trees and stop polluting water sources to help recharge the ground.
Rendemo Shitio from the District Disaster Management Authority detailed the reality of monsoon fury in Nagaland. He pointed to frequent road collapses and floods. These disasters break communities. Shitio argued that planning must include geological assessments and better drainage systems. He championed the Build Back Better principle to ensure infrastructure survives future storms. The event ended with closing remarks from Dr. Devala Devi.
