Kohima: Two National People's Party councillors jumped ship to the Naga People's Front in Kohima on July 17. Medoviu Martin Suohu from Ward No. 19 and Vizokhoto George Kirha from Ward No. 14 quit the NPP along with their supporters. The move leaves the NPF with 15 members in the 19-seat Kohima Municipal Council. The new arrivals pledged to work for the "development and progress" of the city.
NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon welcomed the duo. He noted the NPF has stood as a regional force since 1963. He claims voters now recognize the need for a party that protects Naga identity and pushes for peaceful resolution to political issues. Kikon urged the pair to stay disciplined.
Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, called the switch a blessing. She wants all KMC councillors to unite for city growth. MLA and Advisor for School Education Dr. Kekhrie Yhome, Kohima Division President Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu, and COB Vice President Menuovilie Kesiezie also attended the event. They expect the shift to bolster party influence in the capital.
