Meluri District Unity Stone Erected in Kohima

Kohima: Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, advisor for NSDMA and Inland Waterways, dedicated the Meluri District Unity Stone Monolith at Tsütuo Kharu in Kohima on August 26. The Tsütuonuomia Khel Council spearheaded the project to represent the solidarity of the Naga people. It marks the final piece in a collection representing all 17 of the state's districts.

Nyuthe noted the importance of regional growth during the ceremony. He pointed to the inauguration of Meluri as Nagaland's newest district, which Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio opened on February 21, 2025. Nyuthe called on the public to abandon internal blame. He pushed for a focus on collective understanding instead.

The event touched on heavy history. Speakers recalled the Battle of Kohima and the region's early resistance against British forces in 1879. Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem praised the monument as a symbol of identity. He said, "The Unity Stone was more than a physical structure, representing history, identity, solidarity and collective aspiration."

Local leaders remain focused on political stability. Nyuthe reaffirmed the government's vow to seek a peaceful resolution to lingering political issues. He cited the September 12, 2024, Naga Consultative Meeting as a blueprint for ongoing peace efforts. Tsütuonuomia Khel chairman K. Neibou Sekhose closed the program, reminding attendees that while the tribes and districts are many, the people and their future remain one.
