Kohima: Nagaland officials gathered at Tsütuo Kharu in Kohima on August 26 to dedicate the Meluri District Unity Stone Monolith. The Tsütuonuomia Khel Council constructed the marker to represent the unity of all 17 state districts. MLA Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, Advisor for the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, presided over the unveiling.
Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio officially inaugurated Meluri as the 17th district on February 21, 2025. It previously functioned under the Kohima and Phek jurisdictions. Nyuthe emphasized the need for collective progress, stating, "If we really want to be united, we should not pinpoint each other."
The event drew key officials, including MLA Tseilhoutuo Rhütso and Kohima Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem. Buchem praised the T Khel Council for fostering social harmony. He noted the new district holds significant potential for growth due to its natural resources and strategic location.
T Khel Council Chairman K Neibou Sekhose explained that the monolith completes the set of markers for all 17 districts. The first 16 stones were set on December 7, 2023. The monument serves as a permanent reminder that the state functions as one people with a shared future. Pochury Hoho Kohima President Thosiepa Katiry attended the ceremony to reaffirm his community’s dedication to regional peace and development.
The proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks from General Secretary Er Thepfuzakie Suohu. Kiyakhrienuo Solo and Seyiekhrietuo Sekhose managed the event program.
