Kohima: The National People’s Party Kohima District Unit blasted its MLAs for defecting to the Naga People’s Front. District president Dr. Keviseto Kintso labeled the move political suicide and a trap. He claimed the Neiphiu Rio government orchestrated this poaching to flex its muscle before BJP leaders at the Centre.
Kintso called the shift undemocratic and unethical. He accused the Rio administration of habitually poaching NPP councillors and MLAs using hollow promises. This, he stated, violates basic democratic principles. The district unit held a meeting where executives resolved to double down on party goals. They claim the public wants a total system overhaul.
Party morale remains intact. Grassroots supporters are standing firm despite the loss of elected officials. The NPP continues to push its pan-Northeast agenda with an eye on growth across the region and Nagaland. Regarding the party's future, the statement declared, "The NPP is a people-centric party. Such defections cannot weaken our resolve. We will come back stronger in the entire Northeast and especially in Nagaland."
