Kohima: Three elected Indian National Congress councillors jumped ship to the Naga People's Front on Tuesday. The move signals a fresh political shift in Chümoukedima and Tuli. The induction happened at the NPF Central Office in Kohima. Advisor and Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon oversaw the ceremony.
The defectors include K Wati Imchen from Ward 08 of Chümoukedima Town Council. Temsumenba Imsong and K Imlitemjen Jamir, both representing Ward 06 and Ward 08 of Tuli Town Council respectively, also made the switch. Kikon called the decision "bold and timely" while speaking to the crowd of party supporters.
The NPF maintains a focus on the Naga political issue. Kikon stated that the party protects Naga identity, culture, and heritage. NPF leaders N Bendang Jamir, Charlie Sekhose, and Benjamin Lorin also spoke at the event. They expect these new additions to strengthen the party's grip at the grassroots level. Senior functionaries and office-bearers attended the meeting to mark the arrival of the three new members.

The shift occurred on August 25, 2026. During the ceremony, Kikon defined the party's platform, stating, "Regionalism and the spirit of Naganess form the very core of our identity. The NPF shall continue to stand for and pursue the collective interests and aspirations of the Naga people across boundaries through peaceful and democratic means."
Benjamin Lorin, who serves as the Vice President for Organisation and Establishment, joined other party brass in welcoming the trio into the party fold.
