NPP Moves to Disqualify Five Defector MLAs in Nagaland

Kohima: The National People’s Party filed petitions on October 5 to strip five legislators of their seats. These MLAs recently ditched the party to join the Naga People’s Front. Vevoyi Wideo, the NPP National Vice President, confirmed the move in a press release issued in Dimapur.

The party submitted separate filings to the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for each defector. These actions fall under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution. Party officials are now waiting for the legal process to move forward. “We respect the constitutional office of the Hon’ble Speaker and will place our case before him in accordance with law,” the NPP stated.
