Kohima: Two National People's Party councillors in Kohima flipped their party affiliation on July 17. Medoviu Martin Suohu of Ward 19 and Vizokhoto George Kirha of Ward 14 resigned from the NPP to join the Naga People's Front. The move boosts NPF control to 15 of the 19 seats in the municipal body.
New recruits brought their supporters with them. They pledged to work for the "development and progress" of the capital city. The ceremony took place in Kohima.
Achumbemo Kikon, NPF secretary general and advisor, welcomed the pair. He reminded the new members that the NPF has stood as a regional party since 1963. He insists power rests with the grassroots. The party pushes for a peaceful resolution to the Naga political issue. Kikon noted that more leaders are joining to safeguard Naga rights and identity.
Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, labeled the shift a blessing. She serves as the legislator in charge of the Kohima Division. She urged unity among all municipal councillors to push city development forward. Dr. Kekhrie Yhome, advisor to school education, also attended the event. Kohima division president Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu and COB vice president Menuovilie Kesiezie joined the call to welcome the new members.
