Shillong: Tourism numbers in Shillong and the East Khasi Hills are finally trending up. Bookings are increasing across the region as daily life returns to normal. Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal confirmed the shift Tuesday.
The streets are quiet again. Authorities pulled the Central Armed Police Forces and the Rapid Action Force out of the area after a local organization suspended its agitation. Talks between the sides are still active. "I find the situation completely normal," Baranwal told reporters. He added that the group halted its protests while negotiations continue.
Recent violence forced plenty of tourists to cancel their plans. The industry took a hard hit. While travel interest is climbing, the sector is not back to its pre-disruption peak just yet. Officials view this as a slow return to form rather than a complete bounce back. Visitor footfall suggests confidence in the city is slowly coming home.
