Meghalaya Police Order CCTV Installation at Hotels and Homestays

Shillong: Meghalaya Police ordered all hotels and homestays to install CCTV cameras at entry points and common areas. This directive aims to tighten security across the state. The Superintendent of Police issued the mandate to owners as tourism starts to rebound.

Federation of Shillong Hotels president Parambir Singh Sehdave confirmed the requirement on Monday. He pointed to a rough patch for the industry after violence broke out on August 19. "The situation has now stabilised and tourists are returning to the state," Sehdave said. Visitor numbers stayed low throughout September, but the numbers are climbing back up.

Advance bookings for the coming month look strong. Local events like the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival are driving the surge. Owners must ensure full coverage to comply with the new police order.
