Student killed in Dibrugarh truck crash

Guwahati: A 21-year-old student died Friday after a speeding dumper truck struck her bicycle in Dibrugarh. The crash occurred around 6 pm at Chiring Chapori. The victim, Susmita Chetri, lived in a local hostel while studying in town. She hailed from Margherita.

Witnesses said the dumper, bearing registration number AS06AC 8859, hit the cyclist. The vehicle's rear wheel ran over her head. She died on the spot. Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation officials nearby saw the crash. They rushed her to the hospital in a municipal vehicle. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The death ignited anger among locals. Residents now demand stricter enforcement against heavy vehicles driving through busy city streets. Police arrived shortly after the impact to recover the body and start an investigation. Local sources described the scene, noting that "the speeding dumper struck her, leading to the fatal accident."
