Maova Council Expels Retired Soldier After Minor's Assault

Kohima: The Maova Village Council and its youth and students union permanently expelled a retired serviceman following his alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl. The attack occurred July 7, 2026, in Medziphema. Local authorities labeled the incident heinous, inhumane, and immoral.

The accused lived in Medziphema after retiring from service. He did not reside in Maova Village. Community leaders claimed total ignorance of his daily habits. The incident rattled the town. "The Village authorities had no knowledge of his day-to-day activities. The news of this alleged crime has come as a profound shock to the entire village community, and we strongly denounce his alleged actions in the highest possible terms," the council stated.

The Medziphema Gorkha Mahila Samity joined the condemnation. They demanded authorities prosecute the suspect under the POCSO Act. The Samity asked ward leaders and civil organizations to unite against violence. Both the Gorkha Mahila Samity and the Maova Village Council offered support to the victim and her family. They expressed hope for her quick recovery.

Village officials described the crime as a contradiction to their Christian values. They urged the District Administration and police to finish a thorough investigation. Leaders want the guilty party held accountable. They promised to protect the safety of all children moving forward.
