Kohima: Maova Village Council and the Maova Youth and Students Union have expelled Paominlun Gangte for the July 7, 2026, sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl. Gangte, a retired serviceman and native of Maova, lived in Suporou Colony, Ward No. 9, Medziphema. He never resettled in the village after his retirement. Village leaders confirmed they had no oversight of his daily life.
The council summoned Gangte and his family for a hearing following the incident. They chose permanent expulsion to protect the village’s moral integrity. They maintain a zero-tolerance policy for child abuse. Leaders called the act a violation of fundamental rights. "The news of this alleged crime has come as a profound shock to the entire village community, and we strongly denounce his alleged actions in the highest possible terms," the council stated.
The Medziphema Gorkha Mahila Samity also joined the condemnation. They called for strict prosecution under the POCSO Act. MVC chairman Demmang and MY&SU chairman Jangminlim Lunkim issued the joint expulsion order. They described the assault as a heinous, inhumane, and immoral act. They noted it contradicts the values of their Christian community.
The organizations urged the district administration and police to finish a thorough, impartial investigation. They want the guilty punished by law. Both the Samity and village officials promised solidarity with the victim. They are praying for her speedy recovery. Leaders demanded that all citizens unite against such violence to keep children safe.
